by Stephany, grade 3

The Fairy Bell is a wild flower. Its Scientific name is Disporum oregonium. It has two to three drooping bell shaped flowers. The leaves are glossy veined yellow and green. It grows in lower elevations of Pacific coastal forests and east of the Cascades in the Yellow Pine woods and Mountain Forest zones. This flower blooms in May and June. When the flower is gone, an oblong smooth berry forms. It varies from yellow to orange. The berries are edible, but not very tasty. Sometimes the Fairy Bell is called a Fairy Lantern.
