Avalanche Lily

The Avalanche Lily is a common Northwest wildflower. The Avalanche Lily's scientific name is Erythronium montanum. The Avalanche Lily is a white flower with a yellow center and yellow where the stem begins. The Avalanche Lily's petals are one to one and one half inches long. The stalk is six inches long. The Avalanche Lily grows on the timberline, in sub-alpine meadows, and lower levels. The Avalanche Lily blooms in the springtime. If a person was to eat the Avalanche Lily they would be fine because the lily isn't poisonous. The Avalanche Lily has an interesting way of blooming. The Avalanche Lily melts the snow and blooms through the top few inches of snow.
