Pearson Airpark and Museum

by Carl, grade 3

Pearson Airpark is one of the oldest operating airfields in the US. It is located in East Clark County.
The first flight at Pearson was around 1905 by Silas Christofferson and his wife. Then again in 1912 Mr. Christofferson flew off the roof of a hotel in Portland, bringing the interstate mail across the Columbia River and landing at Pearson Airpark.
On June 20, 1937 following the world's first non-stop transpolar flight, Russian pilots landed at Pearson Airpark after leaving the Soviet Union.
The airpark was named for Lt. Alexander Pearson. He was an Army pilot who was killed in an
accident during a Pulitzer air race in 1924.
Today old, flyable aircraft can be seen at the Pearson Air Museum.
