Marie Dorion was a squaw who had two children and a husband, Pierre Dorion. On the 5th of July, 1813, the John Reed party left Astoria. Their destination was the country of the Snake River. They ended up near the Boise River of Idaho where they set up for trapping wild game. All the party died except for Marie and her children. She tried to go to the Columbia River. She had to stop at the Blue Mountains because it was almost winter. She later crossed the Blue Mountains and was on her way to Walla Walla. She was hungry and in pain. She was rescued by the Northwest Fur Brigade.
