About four miles from Vancouver, if you follow the road eastward, you will see a very nice farmhouse. This is the home of H.C. Leiser and family, a donation land claim of Clark County. Henry Leiser had been living there for about seventy-five years. He was born August, 21, 1848 in Wisconsin. His father, Louis Leiser, was born in Frankfort, Germany, October, 3, 1817. He was killed on his donation land claim on June,5,1907, when he was nineteen. He went to the pasture to bring out a bull and got ran over by him. Henry's mother, Eliza Hollingsworth, lived in England. Eliza and Louis were married November 3, 1842. They had five children. Eliza died when Henry was seven years old. In North Yamhill, Oregon, April, 9, 1876, Henry Leiser was married to Miss Elizabeth.A.Hay, a niece of Lee Laughlin. They had seven children who were all raised in Clark County. Their oldest child,Minnie May married William.T.Fletcher. Minnie May died in the spring of 1927. All but two of Minnie's children went to medical school. One of the two, Miles Fletcher, died in 1918 in October from the influenza epidemic. The other one, Jessie Leiser, went to a higher education in Pacific University and was a teacher in the Grant High School, which is in Portland. There are four public places named after the Leiser's. There is Leiser Crest, Leiser Road, Leiser Point, and Leiser School.
