Jason Lee

On June 28, 1803, in Stanstead, Quebec, Jason Lee entered the world. Little did he know what God had planned for him. He had little schooling in his childhood years, but he graduated from Wesleyan Academy and was licensed to preach in 1830. He then set out west in 1833.Jason Lee was one of the first white men who came west to tell the Indians about God. At Fort Vancouver Dr. Mcloughlin urged him to travel to the south. In 1834 he settled near what is now Salem, Oregon. Indians around his mission had diseases and fevers, so at first he was to busy being a doctor he had no time to tell them about God. But he was successful for the school he founded which is now called Willamette University, the first university west of the Rockies. On July 16, 1837, he married Anna Maria Pittman. In 1842, she died, leaving behind a one month old little girl, named Lucy. But Jason didn't let it slow him down. On March 12, 1845, his health was poor, and he died. He was buried in Stanstead, Quebec.
