The Gooddard Family started their journey from Davis County, Iowa to
Fort Vancouver in 1852. On May 4, 1852 they started their journey with oxen
from Joseph H. Goddard, and his two brothers Richard and Simpson. A mile
later they elected Mr. Miller to be captain because he had been on this
route before. the other people that came with them were, John E. Messanger,
Leroy Clark, Mr. Ernest, Mr. Folia, Mr. Pearson, Mr. East, Mr. Galbreath,
Mr. Lyle, Mr.Lewis, Mr. Young, Abraham Jentice, Jacob Kinne, Mr. Berret,
Mr. Ranken and Mr. Matthews.
When they got to Fort Vancouver they had to camp in a shed used for storing
goods by the Hudsons Bay Company. they had to stay in that shed until they
could find a better home. People think that they ended-up living in a small
house used by the French Canadians.
