Genral Oliver Otis Howard Was born in 1830 in Leeds,Maine. He went to
Bowdoin
College at the U.S.Military Academy. When he came to Fort Vancouver, he
brought the deparment of the Columbia headquarters here. General Howard
died in 1909. He has a
University named after him.
The Nez Peirce Indians were in a war against the army under General Oliver
Otis Howard's command. General Howard got his arm blown off in battle.
