The park was built in 1937 and finished in 1938. It is the county's oldest park. It was built during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration. Here you can swim in the Lewis River, hike, and fish. It has a ball field, a play ground , and tennis courts.

The Community Kitchen, also known as the Central Shelter was originally planned to be a concession stand by its designer Willam J. Paeth.
