William Clark

William Clark [1770-1838] American soldier and explorer, partner of American explorer Meriwether Lewis. Clark, born in Caroline County,Virginia. About 1789 he entered the United States Army. While serving with General Anthony Wayne in the campaign against the Native Americans in 1795, he met Meriwether Lewis. In 1803 they went on an expedition through the newly bought Louisiana Purchase. His brother was also very famous. His name was George Rogers Clark.

During the long journey Clark drew maps and pictures region's wildlife. After his return he worked on the reports of the journey. In 1807, he was asked to be a Brigadier General in the militia in what was later the Missouri Territory. Then, became Superintendent of Indian Affairs at St. Louis. He became Governor of the Territory.
