Beavers

by Valerie

Beavers are furry and have a wide flat tail that looks like a paddle and a large broad head with powerful jaws that have 20 teeth and 4 strong curved teeth for gnawing. Their feet are short and black. The color of beaver fur varies from shiny dark brown to yellowish brown. A beaver mother can have 2 to 4 babies. Beavers live at rivers, streams, and fresh water lakes near woodlands. They are found mostly in the United States and Canada but they are also found in Europe and Asia. Beavers eat inner bark, twigs, leaves, and roots. Poplar trees, cottonwoods, and willow trees are their favorite trees. Beavers where hunted from the late 1500's through the 1800's.
