FRANK HINOJOSA DISPLAYS A MUSICAL NATURE

They say that work and play don't mix, but on or off stage Frank Hinojosa easily combines the two. Over the course of a six year search to incorporate his two passions, music and nature, Frank has come full circle. While no relation to Texas singer/songwriter, Tish Hinojosa, they both share there musical roots in San Antonio as well as their concern for the earth and its people. Tish's manager said, "We are flattered Frank plans to include some of Tish's songs in his performances. " He will perform her songs 'Something in the Rain'and 'Bandera del Sol', in his album debut concert on May 24.

Hinojosa says "I see music as a significant bridge between entertainment and education. We know the world is in trouble, how do we get the message out?"

Frank feels the arts will play an increasingly important roll in the accelerated pace of the world. He says,"The roll of music is gaining momentum. I believe that music is helping to intergrate community, art, culture and the environment. " Believing that music does belong to the people was his stimulus to go into the studio and record his album,"Edge of Passing Days. "

Recording his music has been an aspiration since Frank was very young. "My love for music began while watching my Grandfather and Uncles entertain at family parties. It is my Grandfather who is my real inspiration. I wanted to go into the studio and have fun. When I hooked up with studio engineer, Kelly Smith at Waterpoint Productions, I knew the time had come. "

Lyrical Poet, Ed Nielson provides Frank with most of the words for the songs. Ed draws from his study of literature, history and theater to create "continual word play and endless rhyme."

Frank draws from many musical styles and is adept at them all. He evokes his rich musical heritage when he crosses into Latin rythms. It is Frank's ability to make mirror imagery in poetry through the guitar that allows him to be instrumentally intense and vocally serene.

Frank has a broad background enviromental science both as a student and a worker. This June he will recieve MES degree at TESC.

On the Edge of Passing Days

Words by Ed Nielsen

You might find me in a swirling misty wind
regardless how you find my shape or form
you will find me neither safe nor warm
I'm on the edge of passing days,
I'm on the edge of passing days

Perhaps you'll chance upon my name in an old book
Cobwebbed in some forgotten nook
Something tangible will make me smile
I'm on the edge of passing days,
I'm on the edge of passing days

You might hear my voice in the midnight wind
Sweeping over the empty grave yard
beneath the waters in the English country inn
I'm on the edge of passing days,
I'm on the edge of passing days (MUSIC)

You've lost yourself in business and desire
I have no inclination or need for hire
so go about your need of empty ways
I'm on the edge of passing days,
I'm on the edge of passing days

My face passing in a car don't look to closely
You'll only see your own reflection from after afar
The pass that casts in shadow ends eventually
I'm on the edge of passing days,
I'm on the edge of passing days

Northern Forests

Words by Ed Nielsen

Up in the northern forests,
where the snow softly falls
Up in the northern forests,
where the eagle spirit calls
Up in the northern forests,
where the wind whips the trees
Up in the northern forests,
where winds dance with
Autumn leaves

Chorus:
Wood Spirit...
I can hear you call my name
Do you feel it...
I will never be the same

Up in the northern forests,
where morning light fires light the sky
Up in the northern forests,
where clouds drift on by.
Up in the northern forests,
touched by the breath of the bay
Up in the northern forests,
Where I want to stay

Up in the northern forests,
the wood spirit gently calls
Up in the northern forests,
to one and all
Up in the northern forests,
where the little towns are here and there
Up in the nothern forests,
with the Olympic light and air

Up in the northern forests,
season of hope ringing
Up in the northern forests,
seeing beauty never ending
