The Red-Tailed Hawk

by Trevor, grade 4

The red tailed hawk's scientific name is Buteo jamaicensis. You are most likely to find this bird all around North America. This bird likes to build its nests in high tree tops or tall posts. The uniformly colored tail of the adult is reddish. It is light pink beneath and the dark belly bands are the best field marks. It eats snakes, lizards, and slugs. Its call is a high scream.
