Ring-Necked Pheasant

by Chelsea

The Ring-necked Pheasant's scientific name is Phasianus colchicus. You are going to find this bird in the woods, on farmland, in hedgerows, and cornfields. The Ring-necked Pheasant builds its nest on the ground. It feeds mostly on waste grains, seeds and berries. The Ring-necked Pheasant's distinctive markings and colors are red, green, brown and black. The loud, 2 syllable call is followed by a muffled rapid of beating wings. The Ring-necked Pheasant is much larger than other gallinaceous birds except the turkey. Its flight is strong but only for short distances.
