The Rufous Hummingbird's scientific name is: Selasphorus rufus, which means "Light bearer." You'll most likely see the Rufous Hummingbird in western Oregon and Washington. The Rufous Hummingbird builds its nest in trees. The male Rufous is red-brown, with some white on the belly and green on the wings. It eats insects and nectar from flowers. The Rufous's call is a low dragonfly like hum. The Hummingbird consumes up to half its body weight in sugar. Rufous Hummingbirds are 3 1/2 inches tall.
