Scientific name: Sitta canadènsis
You can find the Red-breasted Nuthatch in the northern and western coniferous forests. The Red-breasted Nuthatch makes its nest in tree hollows. Tree hollows are holes in old trees. Their distinctive markings are a black eye stripe, a reddish belly and short legs. It eats nuts, seeds, and smaller insects. It finds its food by going up and down trees. The Red-breasted Nuthatch's call is a yanking noise, it goes yank, yank, yank. The interesting fact is they're fearless and can be easily tamed. This is our only Nuthatch with white strip above and black strip through the eye.
