You would most likely find this bird in rivers, lakes and shallow waters. In winter you would find them in southern states. The Great Blue Heron likes to build its nests in marshes from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. The Blue Heron's colors are gray [vaguely bluish] with some white, black, and dark red markings. The Blue Heron eats snakes, amphibians, other birds and sometimes very large fish. The Blue Heron finds its food by standing perfectly still in shallow water until some oblivious frog or small fish happens by and then to pluck or spear it. The Great Blue Heron's call sounds like a pig at first then like a crow or a duck.
