The Belted Kingfisher's scientific name is Ceryle alcyon. Ceryle alcyon is pronounced like this [ ser-i-lee al-see-on]: two Greek terms for Kingfishers. You can find this bird along streams practically anywhere. This bird likes to make its nest in a hole in a mud bank. The bird's colors are Blue-Gray with a white neck and females only have a red belt in underparts. This birds food is fish, crayfish, water bugs, and larvae. This bird gets its food from a perch over a stream or occasionally a lake. Its call is like a rattle along the streams.
